I PAID FOR A MINISTER’S HOUSING SO HE COULD PRAY FOR MY BUSINESS.
I PAID FOR A MINISTER’S HOUSING SO HE COULD PRAY FOR MY BUSINESS.
And this wasn’t a church. It was my television production and advertising company.
Some thought it was unusual.
CHARISMA MAGAZINE THOUGHT IT WAS WORTH WRITING ABOUT.
In 2003, I operated D&C Multimedia in Nashville. Like any business, we faced deadlines, financial pressures, and major decisions.
But I believed prayer deserved more than an occasional mention.
So we provided housing and financial support for intercessors committed to praying for our business and marketplace ministry.
On May 31, 2003, Charisma published “It’s Time for Marketplace Ministry,” by Ken Walker, documenting that arrangement.

I was quoted under my former name, Dwann Holmes Olsen:
“It’s very unusual, but we believe it’s right on time.”
“God’s calling us to do this.”
More than 23 years later, here's my question:
WHY WILL WE PAY TO PROTECT OUR PROFITS BUT OVERLOOK THE SPIRITUAL PRESSURES AFFECTING THE PEOPLE PRODUCING THEM?
An executive can manage hundreds of employees while grieving a parent.
An entrepreneur can build a successful company while navigating a family crisis.
Those burdens don't disappear at the office door.
That’s why I believe marketplace chaplaincy deserves serious consideration.
But having a prophetic gift DOESN’T automatically qualify someone to function as a chaplain.
Prayer matters. So do listening, confidentiality, ethical boundaries, training, and knowing when to refer someone for professional care.
Having completed four units of Clinical Pastoral Education, I know preparation matters. It’s part of why we developed Prophetic Chaplaincy Training through GICMP.
What we did in 2003 wasn’t following a trend. We were responding to an assignment.

Your mantle was never just for church. And chaplaincy was never just for hospitals.
